Projects
Here are the four projects included in my Portfolio
- which include A'Level and Art Foundation Projects.
Created for my Year 12 A-Level Art and Textiles project, bone structure, veins, and anatomical elements were the inspirations for this piece. Animal skeletons and biological samples were used as primary research for the creation of a classic ‘Tudor-Inspired’ piece.
A short project from my Art and Design Foundation Course focused on the role of silhouette in thinking structurally rather than practically about the garment-making process. Freedom from practical constraints while draping fabrics created silhouettes that were turned into fashion collages.
Created for my final A-Level Art and Textiles project on the topic of Old Technology, I wanted to create something that contrasted with modern minimalist approaches and styles. Looking specifically at "the death of detail," I used lampshades as a motif, while using AI as a design tool and incorporating traditional stays and corseting from the Rococo period.
“Always the bridesmaid”
In the US alone, roughly 11.3 million tons of textiles end up in landfills annually, equivalent to 2,150 pieces a second. This situation is only getting worse due to the fast fashion industry and our culture of mass consumerism. This shift in values has led to the production of poor-quality clothing using cheap fabrics and mass production techniques, subsequently shortening the lifespan of these clothes and resulting in consumers buying even more.
This piece was made using old bridesmaid dresses, something worn only once and the epitome of single-use fashion. I also chose to use hand-sewing techniques after looking into the Arts and Crafts movement, which rejected machine-made fashion.
